What is the FIT Method?

As mentioned FIT is a two-way street between you and a prospective employer

I like to think about myself as an innovator, entrepreneur, and a problem solver who wants to help put the pieces together for a career that FITs, rather than just 'finding a job for a client'.  I’m a process and systems engineering type by education.  I’ve developed into a leader, consultant, and coach through a combination of formal training and experience.  I’ve relied on my mentors and coaches to help with my personal and career development, and I have a passion to pass on what I’ve learned.

In some ways I’m an atypical profile for a coach, not coming from a social work or psychological background.  In other ways, my background suits coaching, because of my diverse experience as a technologist, executive, and consultant in large and small companies.  As a leader, I’m an applied innovator, who pulls together professionals with diverse backgrounds to help companies improve their performance, culture, and customer focus by helping to solve the problems that are holding them back.

I have a belief that once you can describe the problem and figure out a way to measure the results (e.g., did things improve, did things get worse, or did things stay the same), you can start to apply and test the effectiveness of the solutions.   There’s a natural sequence of applying a solution, testing the results, adjusting the approach, and then repeating the sequence.  This feedback loop mindset is critical in solving difficult technical, operational, and commercial problems, which is my consulting company’s bread and butter.  I figured out that I could apply a similar model to coaching, using more quantitative tools and methods, combined with a coaching workflow that solves the unique problems facing the Zoomer Generation career seekers.

So, what is the basic workflow?  It is a combination of person-to-person coaching, personal reflection, planning, and homework.  Each session and homework are designed to build a foundation and our clients’ confidence.  We work hard together to make sure our clients master their brand and experience, how to engage instantly with decision makers, and how to find the people making the hiring decisions.

Here's the basic workflow:

The FIT Process

We treat these engagement efforts as Outreach Campaigns, and we focus and size each campaign based on clients’ FIT research and Structured Networking.  The methods allow the client to get comfortable with self-promotion and being assertive.  Most importantly, the methods a built on a mindset of resilience and sustainability, allowing our clients to sustain their search until they land the job they deserve.

One of my teachers and mentors summed it up: “Psychiatrists work on the past, Psychologist work on the present, and Coaches work on the future”.  Coaches help our clients see possibilities and help them to develop plans to achieve their goals.   Coaches use active listening and candor to challenge clients to consider the possibility of change and help keep clients grounded and accountable through the execution of their plan.  Coaches offer perspective, examples, and experiences to help the client maintain resilience and a sustainable mindset through the positive and challenging experiences associated with embracing change.

Finding a desirable job that fits your expectations and requirements is a marathon, not a sprint.  Every outreach campaign is an opportunity to land a job that moves your forward in your career, and an opportunity to understand the ecosystem and market for the job you are looking for.

I’ll state it again, Launch Success helps our clients tap into the same skills more experienced professional use to access the Hidden Job Economy.  The Hidden Job Economy are jobs that are in development or that are focused on finding the right candidate.  They often aren’t represented on job websites, and if they are, pushing your FIT to decision makers is critical.
